Beginner Tips

This guide will help you get started with essential tips and hidden mechanics.

Learn how to get free items, find bonus gold, and optimize your runs using the vendor, well, and grid systems.

Vendor

Sol Cesto Tips Quick Guide

* You can pull the vendor’s nose to claim 1 free item (only once per run).

* You can use the hammer to stun the shopkeeper and get a free item, even if you already pulled the nose.

note : If you don’t pull the nose first and use the hammer, the game will still count it as your “nose pull” for later.

Sol Cesto Tips Quick Guide

* A golden ant may randomly appear – click it for a chance to earn gold.

* You can also kill the vendor using any object that can defeat enemies to get a free item, but be careful: the vendor won’t return for the rest of the run.

You can use the hammer to stun the shopkeeper for a free item, even if the nose was pulled previously.
Note that if you don’t pull the nose first and hit him with the hammer, the next time he will behave as if you pulled the nose. You can instead pull the nose first, then use the hammer the second time for a second free item OR the next time you are in the shop.

It can be smart to buy the hammer and then immediately use it to bonk the shopkeeper to snag a more expensive item provided you have the empty item space.

Well

* Occasionally, a gold brick appears in the well (available once per run) – click it to receive one of the following rewards:

– Items
– 10 gold
– Healing

Flute combinations

Note presses are done either a short click, or a long click. Short notes will be lowercase and long notes will be in caps. As far as I know you can only use the flute for one effect per run.

Good Ending Guide

This includes the game’s underlying logic, the conditions for unlocking the true ending, and the conditions for achieving the good ending.

The Direct & Professional

Some say this game is all about luck, and while that’s true to an extent, the actual clear conditions are quite simple if you look closely. You just need to survive a specific number of turns (steps) to move to the next level.

  • Floor 1: 5 steps per level.
  • Floors 2–4: 6 steps per level.
  • Hidden Final Boss (similar to Slay the Spire’s Heart): 7 steps.

Understanding “Steps”

Any action you take counts as one step. Actions are categorized into two types:

  • Using an Item: Always beneficial with no downsides. It can even set up a better environment for your next move.
  • Clicking a Tile: There is a high probability of taking damage.

Pro Tip: Since items are “all gain, no pain,” you need to hoard them. Prioritize getting Hands from the Fountain to increase your item storage capacity.

Character & Stat Priority

In my experience, Attack Power > Magic Power. I have achieved the True Ending using the Farmer, Knight, and Vampire. My build path was consistent across all three:

  • Early/Mid Game: Focus entirely on Attack Power at the Blacksmith for the first two upgrades.
  • End Game: Add a small amount of Magic Power right in the Hidden Stage to round out the build.

Achieve the good ending

The story follows the player descending into a well to find the stolen Sun. On your first playthrough, you will be blocked at the end of Stage 4 by a gate with four sockets. You’ll be forced back to the character selection screen. On subsequent runs, a Gem will appear in each floor for you to collect; however, you can only pick up one Gem per run. Once you have gathered all four Gems, you can unlock the hidden stage—the path to the True Ending.

However, you will soon discover that even after defeating the final boss and reclaiming the Sun, most characters meet a grim fate. These are largely Bad Endings because the Sun’s power is too overwhelming; it corrupts and distorts anyone who attempts to claim it.

But there is one character who is different.

SPOILER WARNING
Who would possibly refuse the power of the Sun? If you’re sharp, you’ve probably guessed it: the Farmer. Having no special skills, he has no desire for the Sun’s power.

That said, achieving the True Ending with the Farmer is a difficult feat. It requires a complete mastery of the game’s underlying logic. The only silver lining is that the Farmer starts with a large inventory. You must save every cent to buy items—specifically those that can stall for turns—and your best bet is to find the Tooth to increase your health regeneration.

That’s all for now. Good luck, and I hope you can bring about a truly Good Ending!
